Bad Ezzy
and the whole world has to answer right now, just to tell you once again, who’s bad…Bad Ezzy got her start when all- girl rap trio S.Y.L.K exploded from a pack of sequins in 2007. Dubbed “Sydney’s Salt N Pepa”, S.Y.L.K tore up dance floors with their sylky smooth rhymes and stylin’ moves. The girls had festivals, club nights and parties scrambling to grace their stages. Their track ‘Work It’ quickly got picked up by FBi radio and was selected for the French compilation called ‘Girl Powder’ in late 2008.
Choreographed dance moves and party raps soon made way for the next stage in Bad Ezzy’s musical odyssey, this time as one third of all-girl DJ posse Hoops. Hoops have become a Sydney staple for anyone wanting a bangin’ set that takes you on a journey with everything from hip-hop, electro, Baltimore and dancehall tunes- all in the coolest pair of Reebok sneakers. The girls have toured nationally numerous times and played with everyone from Dizzee Rascal, Diplo and New Young Pony Club. Hoops have also graced the stages of festivals including Laneway Festival, The Falls Festival, Good Vibrations, We Love Sounds, Playground Weekender and the Bacardi Express. Hoops have become notorious- for all the right reasons.
Ezzy has worked tirelessly to hone her DJ skills solo style, holding down residencies at Sydney hot spots Onelove, Wham! and The Sugarmill. Her sets are never the same, she easily glides between the latest tropical house track to a Grace Jones disco remix to a hip hop classic from Dr Dre and everything between. She is also the official DJ for Sydney rap duo Killaqueenz. Ezzy has become known for her trademark spinbacks and she has been hailed as Sleater Brockman’s “favourite DJ”, which is no mean feat in a city full of them!
